Many church members wish for a solid biblical-theological education on important matters of faith that goes beyond individual community lessons, themed weekends, and community seminars. They wish to have access to academic theological experts who are also grounded in the foundation of faith. They would like to study theology properly, but they do not have the Matura, and moving to a study location is not possible because they are bound to their location for professional and family reasons.

To help here, and to meet this understandable need for academic knowledge and living faith growth, ETA Zurich was founded. Three recognised professors and a doctor of theology offer a theology programme that is open to all and is at university level in both academic format and curriculum. At last it is possible for every member of the congregation to receive theological education at an academic level - and to do so from home.

The lessons at ETA Zurich give enough time to be able to approach theological topics appropriately. We help you to understand even difficult subjects. The structure of the courses ensures a comprehensive study of all theological fields. The lessons cover the presuppositions, the content and the consequences of the Christian faith.

We offer practical and job-oriented classes that you can attend while working. Our competent teachers provide you with helpful knowledge from the Bible, enable you to engage in theological reflection, and seek to engage with you in dialogue. Ultimately, our goal is to help you learn how to practically shape your life with the help of Jesus, in your everyday activities, whether it be in family, school, training, marriage, work or retirement. Additionally, we aim to equip you with the ability to help strengthen the community you attend and to help it flourish outwardly, by assisting competently and responsibly in areas such as pastoral care, children's work, teenage work, youth work, and senior work. This training will also inspire you to support the community in its evangelistic efforts and its missionary endeavors, or even to lead these areas. This means: At ETA Zurich, the focus is on intellectual learning and spiritual growth for life and everyday living, for service and community, and this is done with the utmost theological professionalism. It is not about collecting grades, credit points or certificates. ETA Zurich takes seriously that in the kingdom of God, academic degrees and grades do not play a role. Instead, at the center of ETA Zurich is learning, growth, and fruitfulness. However, for those who wish to assess their own performance, they may take exams and obtain a diploma.

Professor Dr. Armin Mauerhofer is an expert in practical-theological and New Testament issues. Professor Dr. Harald Seubert is an expert in Christian apologetics, missiology, philosophy, and Old Testament. Professor Dr. Johannes Schwanke is an expert in dogmatics, ethics, and church history. Dr. Zsolt Rady is an expert in pastoral care and mission within the framework of practical theology, with a specialization in police chaplaincy also possible within this field.
